At the Mattex stand, one of the most popular stands of the fair, visitors had their own t-shirts printed at Kornit Atlas with the water-free Kornit technology
Mattex, one of the Mat Group companies that distributes Kornit in Turkey and some surrounding countries, hosted visitors from corporate companies and the industry at one of the eye-catching stands of FESPA Eurasia 2021. Visitors had the opportunity to see the advantages of the technology in practice by printing t-shirts on the Kornit Atlas installed at the stand.
Board Member Can Babataş and General Manager Doğu Pabuççuoğlu answered our questions at the Mattex stand.
- This is your first fair participation after receiving Kornit representation. Could you please explain the process of obtaining Kornit representation and the establishment of Mattex and its positioning within the Mat Group?
Doğu Pabuççuoğlu: As Matset, we are present everywhere that is digital. Everything digital attracts our attention. Kornit's General Manager was the former HP Indigo Europe Regional Manager. Our relationship continued after we moved to Kornit. They contacted us last year and said they wanted to change distributors in Turkey. We met with the management and said we were interested. This is how the process started. The duration of the contract with the current distributor and the pandemic process intervened. This worked for us too. We needed a preparation process. We decided to carry out this operation under a new company. Because when we went to the textile industry with the name Matset, we thought it would be a little difficult to introduce ourselves to them and make them accept us, so we wanted to enter the industry with a name related to textiles. But we wanted it to be under Matset, so we named it Mattex. We recorded it accordingly. This is the first time we are attending a fair with this name. But we have been promoting this name on social media for a year.
Can Babataş: We introduced it on social media and at Istanbul Fashion Week. We became the sponsor of Istanbul Fashion Week.
- But you attended the fair with a good brand and machine…
D. Pabuççuoğlu: Yes; Kornit's place is number one in digital textile printing. Kornit has great expectations from the Turkish market. We also have great expectations from this machine. We are a company that is always hungry for business. Kornit is also a company hungry for business. Two hungry companies are investing seriously. Kornit will appoint two people to Turkey after the new year. It will enable us to govern Türkiye and its immediate surroundings (including Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan). Therefore, we will work as it deserves. Many visitors came from these regions yesterday.
C. Babataş: Currently, exports have increased as purchases from China have decreased in Europe and America. One of Kornit's biggest advantages is that it is environmentally friendly and consumes almost zero water. While 80 liters of water is consumed in the production of a T-shirt, only ink is used in Kornit. No other water is consumed. Brands are very sensitive about these issues. Brands are directing the industry towards this technology to be more environmentally friendly and for their brand image. The textile industry in Turkey is very developed and still developing. We also believed very much in this technology and sector. After signing Kornit's distributorship agreement, we immediately included two people in the technical team. We included one person in the sale, we will include another person. Before we even sell the machines, we employ four people, two of whom are technical service personnel. We are rearranging the showroom. There will be a Kornit Atlas and a roll-to-roll fabric printing machine, and there will be Indigo machines. Kornit trusts us, and we trust Kornit. I hope we will continue successfully.
